What is Merlin?

Merlin is a HIPAA-Secure healthcare management platform that allows patients to keep track of their health information, like prescriptions, allergies, and pre-existing conditions. The app is also a tool for doctors to contact their patients remotely.

What is HIPAA?

HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) is United States legislation that provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information. For a platform to be certified HIPAA-secure, all patient information must be protected electronically and physically. Our databases use tools like dual-authentication and firewall protection to ensure any information patients input into Merlin is kept between the patient and any physician they allow.

Using Merlin

How do I get started with Merlin?

During our Beta phase, Merlin is invitation-only. In order to use the app, your doctor will need to send you a link to download the app and create an account. You will receive an SMS text message with a Merlin invitation link. If you have Merlin but have not received a link from your doctor, please contact your doctor’s offices directly in order to be connected.

How do I go to my health profile?

In the top right-hand corner of your home screen there is a person icon that will take you to your health profile. Here you can edit your basic health information, and add important information health for your own records.

How do I start a call with my doctor?

Merlin only allows one-way calls from doctors to patients. Your doctor will schedule an appointment time with you, which will show up on your home screen. If you need to schedule an appointment with your doctor, we require you contact your doctor’s office directly.

Do I need to have the Merlin app open to accept a call?

Nope. You can accept calls at any time, whether or not the app is open. Merlin calls come in like a normal phone call, and will show up with your doctor’s name for reference.

Why are there no passwords?

As a security measure, we have placed added emphasis on TouchID access. For users who do not wish to use TouchID, Merlin will send a temporary 4-digit passcode to allow entry into the app. This helps protect login from outsider intrusion, making sure your health information is yours and yours alone.
